In this climate of finding the lowest cost manufacturers of high quality goods, an area that isn't often given as much attention as it should is in the area of logistics and supply chain management. Total delivered cost or total net landed cost is the cost measure that should be used. While manufacturing cost is typically the largest cost factor, well-managed transportation and distribution costs can help make a product more profitable. Companies should know their transportation costs, their warehouse and handling costs along with inventory carrying costs.
