Stamping is a manufacturing process that uses a press to operate progressive stamping dies and other types of dies. Presses are often used in the automotive industry and can be either mechanical or hydraulic. During the stroke the hydraulic presses have constant press force; mechanical presses have a press force progression towards the bottom dead center. Mechanical presses reach higher cycle times and generally are used more in industrial setups. Typically, a stamping press is electronically controlled and full automation of the parts from the stamping to the straightening is performed by the machine.
